How GRÜNHAFER differs from traditional oats

Unlike oats, which are produced from ripened grain, GRÜNHAFER green oats are made from the whole young oat plant when it’s still green. The key difference lies in the timing of the harvest: for GRÜNHAFER, the plant is harvested much earlier – after flowering and before starch is stored in the grain.

For feeding purposes, the difference therefore lies in which part of the plant is used. Although oats are classed as a cereal, botanically they belong to the grass family – just like our meadow grasses. When the whole plant is used, oat plants can also provide a fibre-rich feed. This makes GRÜNHAFER distinctly different from oats: it is lower in starch and has a moderate energy content.
